Medical Coordinator

Looking for a way that YOU can help animals? We have an opening for a Medical Coordinator. Here's what it entails:

Someone who is available during days/evenings to take calls and schedule our adult foster dogs for their medical needs. Prefer someone who does not work or works part time and can handle the calls. Must be professional in dealing with people and our vets. Computer experience is helpful as you will be updating our medical database also.

If interested please email medical@almosthomefoundation.org or call Chuck 630-673-4320.

Please check out all our openings at http://www.almosthomefoundation.org/newsite_volunteer.html

National Pit Bull Awareness Day is Oct 22, 2011

WARNING: Pit Bulls are Known to Steal Warm Spots on the Couch and Spread Happiness.

Join Almost Home Foundation in celebrating National Pit Bull Awareness Day on October 22nd, 2011. We will be hosting special adoption shows featuring our lovable Pit Bulls.

Come and meet our Pitties and experience first hand what great pets they really do make. Ask our volunteers about our adoptable Pitties – like Camo, Miss Liberty and Xena. For more of our adoptable Pitties – check out our available dogs page.

The adoption shows will be held October 22nd from 11am – 3pm at the following Petsmart stores:

Bloomingdale PetSmart
Barrington Road PetSmart
Golf Meacham
162 S. Gary Avenue
140 N. Barrington Rd.
1440 E. Golf Rd.
Bloomingdale, IL
Schaumburg, IL
Schaumburg, IL

Did you know? ...
Pit bulls score better for aggression when compared to other dogs. Temperament evaluations by the American Temperament Test Society completed in 2011 give American Pit Bull Terriers a very high passing rate of 86.4%. That's higher than Beagles (80.6%), Border Collies (81.2%) and even Yorkies (82.5%)!  (Source: American Temperament Test Society, Inc. - http://atts.org)

Cats By Invitation Only

People often say they’ll adopt the cat that chooses them. They want the one that comes right up to them with a big hello!

But what about the cats who aren’t brave enough to make the first move? They’re the ones who sit in the back of their cage or hide under the blankets.

Nobody gives these cats a second look. They get passed by week after week, watching the friendlier, more confident cats find homes.

Some of them just have a shy streak. Others are extremely friendly in the home environment, but are terrified when placed in a cage at a busy pet store.

These special cats need somebody who sees with their heart instead of their eyes. We hope you fall in love with one of these faces!

Palatine StreetFest event

VISIT US AT  PALATINE STREETFEST!!     VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TOO!
Almost Home Foundation will again be represented at the Palatine StreetFest event, which is planned for the weekend of August 26 through 28.This will be our fourth year and, again, NO dogs are allowed at this event; however, it is a great marketing venue and all non-profit organizations equally split the proceeds from the sales of children’s rides.
All non-profits receive free advertising and a site on the gazebo courtyard, in exchange for having their booths in operation during required hours and sharing the operation of a child game with its surrounding non-profit neighbor.
I will be at our booth for the entire 2-day event, but I need volunteers to assist:
SATURDAY:   11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. (I do have one person signed-up );
                            2:00 – 5:00 p.m.,
                            5:00 – 8:00 p.m.;
SUNDAY:        11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.;
                            2:00 – 5:00 p.m.;
                            5:00 – 6:00 p.m. (includes assisting with taking-down booth).
If you are able to volunteer during any of these times, please e-mail me at linda.pawling@sbcglobal.net or call me on my cell phone:847/909-4667 (I will return those calls after work hours.) Palatine's website is: www.palatinestreetfest.com Thank you!!

Almost Home Foundation needs more temporary homes for their dogs

Almost Home Foundation needs to expand thier foster pool! Lots of dogs that come through would do best as only pets....these dogs end up alone in the kennel and get depressed, which doesn't help them get adopted. If you don't have a dog...would you consider fostering one of these guys? If you do have a dog, how about a temporary play mate? It's not easy, but its extreamly rewarding and your help is desprately needed.

You can check out our dogs waiting for a temporary home below.
